In the MEI consumer cohort (n=20), stale inventory themes appear in 40.0% of portals and duplicate themes appear in 10.0%.
These are topic-presence signals, not incident rates. But they are decision-grade: they identify which failure modes are visible enough to become reputational load.
The second-order effect: when inventory integrity is contested, everything upstream becomes more expensive - support, refund disputes, advertiser churn, and regulatory attention.

AI changes Listing Quality in two ways at once:
1) It can reduce operational load (deduplication, anomaly detection, content QC).
2) It can accelerate misrepresentation when generative content becomes the ‘default’ description layer and when conversational interfaces summarise listings for users.
This is why provenance, escalation, and audit trails matter: the risk is not that AI exists - the risk is that the portal cannot evidence how content was produced, reviewed, and corrected.
If your portal ships AI-generated descriptions, highlights, or media, Listing Quality becomes a governance problem: you need to be able to explain what was generated, under what constraints, and how it can be corrected.
